This Daga Salmon (Argyrosomus japonicus) commonly known as Kob, Giant kob, Kabeljou and Dusky kob is found along the entire coast line of South Africa. It is a popular recreational angling fish and an importain commercial species. The Daga Salmon has a robust boy with an overal color of silvery grey. Thick scales cover the body arranged in 48 to 55 series along the lateral line and a small fleshy scale-less structure is found at the pectoral axil which helps to positively identify this species. Daga Salmon have been heavily targeted by commercial fisheries, leading to a collapse in the population. Today it is considered threatened, but not critically endangered.
