Ragged Tooth Shark

A spotted ragged-tooth shark in South Africa’s Aliwal Shoal, a mating ground for raggies from June to November. Despite their size, imposing  appearance and ferocious set of teeth, ragged-tooth sharks are docile and do not react aggressively even when closely approached. The sharks usually congregate in coastal waters, between 60 and 190 meters. They’ll typically shelter in caves during the day and come out at night to feed. The ragged tooth shark, also known as the grey nurse shark or tiger shark, is the only known shark to gulp and store air in its stomach in order to maintain neutral buoyancy while swimming.
