Rare Seahorses in Chole Bay

A short video of some stunning, yet humble seahorses in Chole Bay, Mafia Island. Seahorses are difficult to spot because they’re excellent at hiding and are also quite rare. They’re vulnerable to extinction due to low birth rates with lengthy parental care and exploited habitats from fishing or urban development.

Footage was taken with the GoPro Hero 3 during a shore scuba dive from the Mafia Island Lodge. The spines on the  gill cover are reported to be venomous and can inflict a painful wound.  Squirrelfish are closely related to Soldierfish.
