Hermit Crabs

Hermit crabs are decapod crustaceans that fall in the superfamily Paguroidea. Most have adapted to spending most of their lives in gastropod shells which are used to protect the soft rear part of their body. Some species use holes in coral rather than shells.

Hermit crabs can be roughly split into two groups, those that spend their lives underwater and those that spend a large portion of their lives on land .  These species still require access to water to keep their gills wet.
