A Tassled Scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis oxycephala), perched on atop coral off the coast of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Tassled Scorpionfish vary considerably in color and are bearded with numerous tassels below the jaw. They inhabit clear-water outer reef slopes and channels from depths of one to at least 35 meters in areas with mixed rocks and coral substrates. Their venomous spines, if touched or stepped on, may cause painful injury so be sure not to get too close!
